Disciplines

The disciplines this site covers, split by the surface you ride and the rules that decide the result.

Hard enduroHard enduro: the HEWC (FIM world championship) rounds, the HEWR (world ranking) events and the independents, together.
EnduroEnduro: the EnduroGP FIM world championship (two race days per round) and the nations-based ISDE. Decided on cumulative special-test times rather than obstacles.
RallyRally raid: the W2RC — the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship that opens with the Dakar Rally — plus the independents.
Sand racingBeach racing on sand: every round of the FIM Sand Races World Championship, plus the independents that belong to no series. Hundreds of riders line up on the beach for a mass start and lap a course that runs through the dunes. The finale at Le Touquet is one of the largest off-road races anywhere by entry numbers.
TrialTrial: sections built from rocks and logs, ridden without putting a foot down. Speed decides nothing — the rider who loses the fewest marks wins. Covers the outdoor TrialGP, the indoor X-Trial, and the Trial des Nations contested between countries.
Flat trackFlat track, or dirt track: anti-clockwise laps of a dirt oval, steering on the throttle with the rear wheel sliding and the front brake unused. Races are named for the length of the oval — Short Track, Half-Mile, Mile. Covers America’s AFT plus the FIM Flat Track and Long Track World Championships.
MotocrossMotocross: a set number of laps of a dirt course built from jumps and rollers. Covers the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP and MX2), the Motocross of Nations, and America’s AMA Supercross, AMA Pro Motocross and SMX.

Key

HEWC (hard enduro FIM world championship, rounds)
HEWR (hard enduro races that score towards the world ranking)
Enduro (EnduroGP and the ISDE)
Rally raid (the W2RC and others)
British Extreme Enduro Championship (national, ACU-sanctioned)
Non-series (independent, belonging to no series)
Dates unconfirmedDates not yet fixed

In hard enduro, HEWC and HEWR are not mutually exclusive. One race can be both HEWC Rd 4 and HEWR Premier, in which case it carries two badges. The colour follows the HEWC. Motocross and supercross — pure speed racing — are outside this site's scope.
